When it comes to the way pants fit, precision is key. Essential to choosing the right pants for you and your personal style, are your personal measurements. Though the upper leg or thigh of a pant may change dramatically depending on the specific style – those signature 80’s parachute pants, for example, had a much looser upper leg than most styles today – the other areas don’t change too much. You’ll typically find pants sized according to “waist” alone (though this actually refers to the piece of fabric that encircles the hips), but you might occasionally come across options for pant length as well.
Although the waist/hips measurement is a great starting point for creating pants with a perfect fit, it should be just that, a starting point.
